Classic case presentations:
We will discuss a number of “archetypal” clinical situations as a group. The discussion will touch on topics such as patients with fibromyalgia, patients on benzodiazepines and opioids, patients with pain and a substance abuse history, treated patients without functional improvement, and more: Facilitated group discussion.
At our last Steering Committee meeting we decided to have some of us come up with cases, not necessarily real, that we can discuss at the next meeting. Hopefully each of us that creates a case can facilitate the discussion. We thought that they shouldn’t be so extreme as to trigger reactions of immediate referral, but rather represent true situations that primary care deals with in regards pain.
John and I will produce a case each, and hopefully some of you (BJ, Rachel, Ginger, ?) can come up with others. Laura and Sara won’t be there on the 16th so we are losing some of our usual support. Let me know if you have some ideas and I’d be glad to work with you on them.
We encourage other organizations to make use of these guidelines, including modifying them with local information and resources.
Our process for assisting other organizations to create their own version:
Please send us some background on your organization and your intended use of the guidelines.
We will send you a Microsoft Word document for you to modify, using track changes. Also include any additional pages and attachments – e.g. local resources and contacts.
We take your changes and create a new, professionally formatted PDF, customized for your organization, that you can print, distribute electronically, or post on your website. We charge for the time involved. Typically this is a nominal fee if your changes are not extensive.
